Who does What and Where

This week we had an orientation class for a group of new employees.  My part of the orientation day is to provide an overview of the different departments in the company.  As you can imagine discussing the company org chart can be a rather dry subject, especially when it is being delivered by an ex-programmer.  To spice it up I use several visual aids.  One is the aerial view of our campus that is shown below.  This allows the new employees to get familiar with the location of the different groups in the company.  Here is a condensed version of my orientation talk:

 1. Sales - The sales representatives are located on the 2nd floor of the Sales/Admin building.  It is the smaller of the two building and was our original office on this site.  We moved into this building in 1992 with 34 employees.  Things have changed quite a bit since then.

 2. Marketing - Is housed on the 3rd floor of the Sales/Admin building.  From looking at the picture, you may wonder “what 3rd floor”, but it is the attic of the original building.  When designing that building we left with enough ceiling height so the attic could be used for office space.  It's actually a "cool" working environment with slanted ceilings and dormer windows.

 3. Customer Support - The top floor of the Technology center (the larger of the buildings) is where the customer support department is located.  Before we built the Technology center we had customer support split between three floors of the original building.  So when you call into customer support, picture a large open room with windows positioned so everyone has a view.

 4. Programming - The programmers, testers, writers and advanced customer support groups are all located on the first floor of the Technology center. If you were wondering where my office is, it is on the first floor right under the "A" in ACS Technologies.

 5. IT - There is a ground floor of the Technology building that is somewhat hidden from this camera angle.  Our IT group and our main data center are located on this ground floor.  We have a 2nd server room over in the Sales/Admin building that provides for redundancy and we also have an offsite data center for extra protection.

You may notice two smaller buildings in the picture.  These are also part of our campus and were our first step in adding space beyond our original building.  There are actually three smaller buildings (one is hidden behind the Technology building) and these provide space for our accounting department, forms and supplies group, and our training center. We like our facilities and enjoy showing them off to clients that stop by.

If you are ever driving down I-95, stop by for a tour.
